Party Line Dances

You can learn to line dance -- all you need are the basic steps. And at the next party or wedding you attend, you can be on the dance floor having fun, instead of sitting and watching!

PS -- if you have not yet made a video lens, today is a good day to try. I simply took a subject that I love - line dancing - and found a few basic line dance videos -- and voila', a new lens! Have some fun with your lens creations!

Optimist Club of Rock Hill, South Carolina

The Optimist Club of Rock Hill is a small but enthusiastic group of folks working to make a difference to the children in our area.

For the past 8 years, my husband, Whitey Adams, has been directing their golf tournament every spring. We have watched these people work very hard to make a successful event happen again and again. They certainly all have our deep respect and admiration.

This is the first of a series of lenses about my home town. If you have not made a home town lens yet, now is the time to start. Look around you at all the businesses and volunteer groups that could really use your skills.

Come Join us on Giant Squid Open Mike
. This show will focus on the new challenge. Today at 4:00 Eastern Standard Time. October 5, 2009!

here is how it works.....
http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Giant-Squid-OpenMike/2009/10/05/Giant-Squid-Open-Mike-Monday-105

a little before 4 this afternoon, Monday, October 5 you will go to the website and find the chat room -- usually just by scrolling down...sometimes you need to click a "chat here" button..

If you want to call in during the show, ask a question or make a comment, just dial on your telephone (347) 857-3934 anytime during the show....... You will be instructed to press 1 (one) on your telephone keypad, and that will let Kate know you are ready to be introduced. She will introduce you soon as she can, and bring you on the call. (turn down the vol on your computer or you will have an echo on the phone -- there is a slight lag time)

The chat room operates like any other chat and it's always fun and interesting out there. Chef Keem will likely be there, Ron Pass, Mimi, and other folks you will quickly recognize.

After the show, Kate makes a podcast, so that people can download to their ipods free. and she will also have it on her blog or a lens for folks to listen on the webpage..

The show is casual and fun. we are chatting -- it's just that it is being recorded for posterity and being listened to at the moment by a bunch of folks.........lol

more questions? just let me know..........it's fun, it's a very fast

PS if you have trouble finding the chat, refresh the page! the chat does not show up until the show begins.

Getting Traffic to Your Lens

We had a nice discussion on the JJJ-2 ning yesterday about the importance of visiting. Visting other lensmasters may be the one single most important thing to do for your own traffic.

Warning - do not leave a link in someone's guestbook. If people want to visit you, they can click on your picture and discover your links. I personally remove comments with links.

But I do strongly suggest you visit at least 10 lenses a day. Visit the top 100 in every category to start. and leave a positive comment. If a lens is in the top 100, it is most likely a lens to study! How does a lens get to the top 100 in any Squidoo category? Many many visits, comments, rankings and favorites. Study these lenses to discover the secret of their success!

And have fun Squidoo-ing! Get involved in the community!

Visiting Lensmasters to Learn

Happy Birthday to Lensmasters with July birthdays!

John Dilbeck on July 1
Jaguar Julie on July 9
Seth Godin on July 10
Janelle Kleppin on July 23

Now here's the idea -- Visit at least one of these lensmasters lenses on their birthday and say Happy Birthday in the comments section! Birthdays are a fun celebration on Squidoo!

Note -- and these particular July birthday folks are great lensmasters to learn from. Visit and pay attention, my friends!

Note to newbies --remember -- do not leave your link in your comment. That is considered rude behavior at Squidoo. Make a comment relevant to the lens, and say Happy Birthday! It's fun!

and to keep up with all the birthdays in the future, simply go to Happy Birthday Tribute. Don't forget to add your own birthday! :)

Great Lens Ideas Just For June

I just found this website - the Top Ten Internet SuperStars of 2009 - looks like a great place for some super lenses - especially twttrlists for some of them!

Take a 15 minute break and wander through this list. Interesting folks - and some I had never heard of before. Of course, Susan Boyle is # 1, and there are some great Squidoo lenses about her already. So skip on down and find someone who is new to you but in the top ten world-wide, do some research and create a lens with some super dooper keywords!

http://inventorspot.com/articles/top_ten_internet_superstars_2009_26394

Be sure to come back here and leave a comment with your link to your new lens from this list!

Great lenses to Visit

As most of you know, we have a team competition happening at Squidoo. The Jolly Judicious Jetsetters is one of those teams.

One of the best ways to learn Squidoo is by visiting great lenses. I can assure you that each lens listed in the Jolly Judicious Jetsetters is an excellent lens. Go to the JJJ lens now (just click on the link above) and start visiting!

There are two plexos full of lenses - at last count there were 156 in all. The first plexo includes lenses created by lensmasters who are trying to qualify for Giant Squid at the end of June with 50 excellent lenses - looks like they are well on their way to doing just that!

The second plexo is for Giant Squids who are creating lenses to qualify for Giant Squid 100 - 100 excellent lenses!

This site is a treasure trove of super examples! Come visit us! We'd love to see you!

How to Be You - On Squidoo

In Chef Keem's lens on How to Be You on Squidoo, he quotes Seth Godin: "Remarkable doesn't mean remarkable to you. It means remarkable to me. Am I going to make a remark about it? If not, then you're average, and average is for losers."

Chef Keem's lens is one of the best I have ever seen about the importance of sharing yourself on Squidoo. I strongly recommend that you read this one today.

Don't you like to read personal lenses? Isn't it fun to get to know other folks? And then, don't you then begin to follow that person's lenses -- just because you like them or appreciate their openness? Don't you know people feel that same way about you?

Are you sharing your own personality on your lenses or feeding us rote information? Guess which one is the most fun to read.

Merry Month of May

May 2009 is here! and there are holidays for lensmaking!

Holocaust Remembrance Day - May 1
Mothers Day - May 10
Engelbert Humperdinck Birthday - May 2
Bing Crosby Birthday - May 2
International Nurses Day - May 12
South Carolina Ratification Day - May 12
Memorial Day (USA) May 25

A quick search on line for celebrity birthdays in May or holidays in May will provide tons of great lens ideas just for you!

Oh, did you see my lens about the Dancing the Maypole ?

Some Things Bear Repeating

As I fly around Squidoo land in my role as a Squid Angel, I look at more lenses than you can imagine! lol It is fun, and I dearly love to find one worthy of a blessing.

I continue to see these common errors - so I decided to again alert you to these:

1. Bio - oh my! sometimes I dream about that orange guy. Please add a photo and a bio. Introduce yourself to your readers.

2. Default module titles - again and again I see reasonably good lenses with all default module titles. Don't be guilty of that one. Change the title in every module that you use. I am especially aware of this one. It was one of the hardest lessons for me to learn on Squidoo. I would create a beautiful lens, send it proudly to The Isle of Squid, and shortly receive a message "your lens cannot be accepted because you have default module titles." And I would fix them, and resubmit. Over and over. Save yourself some grief. Fix those module titles as you create your lenses (and if you ever spot one on a lens of mine -- do me a favor -- drop me a note and tell me). Thank you.

3. No Intro Picture. A lens without an intro picture is half done. Add a picture to that intro module.

and keep having fun making super lenses!!

Joan's Jolly Judicious Jetsetters

If you are working toward becoming a Giant Squid or Giant Squid 100, and you should be, you are invited to join the Jolly Judicious Jetsetters. The JJJ's are a part of a new challenge that was arranged by the Giant Squid Greeters.

The 5 teams are competing to find out which team can produce the most quality lenses from May 1 to June 15. Won't you join us? This is already fun as people are twittering about it and there's lots of good-natured competition happening even as we are adding folks to our teams.

This is a great way to get to know fellow lensmasters -- and to have your lenses critiqued! Just leave a note in the comment box stating that you would like to be on the team!

Complete that bio

This is good advice for all of us -- old and new!

Keep that bio fresh and appealing! Of course, you must have a photograph and a bio. Or if you have a friendly and quickly recognizable logo like Ohme or Growwear, then that works too!

Introduce yourself as if you were at a business social hour or a Chamber of Commerce meet and greet breakfast. Be friendly and cordial. Tell us about yourself and why you love Squidoo. Tell us about your children, your dogs, your cats. and somehow mention your expertise or interest in each lens.

Yes, I use a default bio sometimes, but I am trying to train myself to change the bio for each lens.

Your bio is very important. And I can assure you, if that orange guy is in your bio, many of us will rush right on without reading your lens.

PS - a little special angel advice -- I don't ever bless a lens with an incomplete bio or a default module title - the worst offender and the one most often forgotten? Guest Book!

Believe me, I have had to correct many of my own many times over, so I am an expert in those default module titles. Check them, and then check again. It's so easy to take a quick look, consider your lens "done" and overlook that default Guestbook title.

Have a fun day Squidoo-ing!

Reminders

If you have not yet joined Squidlog, you will want to do that. You can read great articles about your Squidoo life, link directly to Squidoo chat, get to know other lensmasters, and in general, just have some Squidoo-fun!

Also, if you have not yet checked out One Week Marketing, this is a reminder to do that. Go and download the free pages and see what you think! Potpiegirl is amazing!

and one more reminder - have you introduced yourself over at SquidU? Click on Discussion Forum, fill out your profile information, and go to the forum area marked "introduce yourself". SquidU is vital to lensmasters. And a great way to meet your fellow Squidoo-ers.

Take the time to review all of the available modules. It's easy to get into the habit of using the same ones over and over. I know I have to make myself stretch sometimes to try something new. Exploring the modules is a great way to stretch and make your lenses more interesting, for sure!

Are you having fun with Squidoo?

Any small town would be thrilled to have you make lenses about them!

Do let me know if you follow up on this idea! I would love to read about your town!
